CHANDIGARH/PANCHKULA: Even as monsoon is expected to hit Tricity in the first week of July, light showers might spell relief for Panchkula residents this week, due to its proximity to hills. But the searing heat will continue to trouble Chandigarh residents for another 10 days with the met department predicting that hot winds will continue to blow over the city.
According to the director of the met department, it's a wait and watch situation as this week will decide the course of showers in Chandigarh. The maximum temperature touched 42.1 degrees celsius on Sunday.
"People will have to bear with the scorching heat as the weather will remain completely dry for the next 10 days. Previously, we were of the opinion that monsoon will be delayed by five days, but now with the mercury soaring each day, it might be there till the end of June," said Met Director, Surinder Paul.
He added, "In Chandigarh, this week shows no signs of rain or for that matter even development of any small cloud. But Panchkula might get light showers due to its proximity to hills."
"It's awfully hot. One can't even afford to get out in the evening as the pinching hot winds continue to blow. To add to the misery this horrible weather brings a host of infections and health-related problems," said Varsha Dogra, a resident of Sector 15, Chandigarh.
Ranjit Singh, a resident of Sector 10, said, "This summer vacation has turned out to be pathetic as we can't even think about going for outings. I think the situation is such that we will have to book cooler places for the month of June in advance."
